There ARE cheaper alternatives but they are not the original cable which works best. I went with the_nintendo_smith due to the transparency on the seller page. Everyone else is lying in saying their cables are new. Nintensmith's products ARE as they say "gently used" when what you are receiving is like new open box. That original charger is worth the extra money by avoiding the risk of frying the 3ds.
