Feedback in seller terms and conditions

Our feedback system is a critical part of building trust on eBay, and we want buyers to be able to leave honest feedback about their experiences with a seller.

Sellers are not permitted to include in their listings or terms of sale any conditions that limit or restrict the buyer from leaving feedback.

What are the guidelines?

Activity on eBay is required to follow this policy, the eBay User Agreement and all applicable laws, as well as respect the rights of third parties. If it doesn’t, eBay may take action consistent with applicable laws and the eBay User Agreement, and may even be legally required to do so. Such actions may include, as an example only: Removing the listing or other content, issuing a warning, restricting activity or account suspension.

Some Examples

  • “Buyers who leave negative feedback without first contacting me will be required to pay me $500.”
  • “By purchasing this item you agree to only leave positive feedback on my account.”

Why does eBay have this policy?

Feedback is the foundation of trust on eBay. Having terms and conditions that dissuade an individual from leaving feedback undermines the integrity of the feedback system and decreases trust within the eBay marketplace.
