What Do You Do When Your Laptop Charger Stops Working?

Discovering that your laptop charger has stopped working can be a disaster, especially if you need to get online quickly and do some work. Instead of scouring for a brand-specific charger for your device, you can look for a universal AC/DC charger, so you can have power supply back in no time.

How Do Universal Power Adapters Work?

As you may already know, different brands of laptops have different tips that plug into your computer. When you select a universal charger, you will receive a group of tips, so you can find the right one for your laptop model. You have two options when choosing an external power supply:

  • Whole charging cable kits: Kits come with different tips plus the power adapter cable.
  • Adapter tip sets: If you only need a new tip, you can find a tip set that will include four, eight or more different tips to fit into your DC power device. The brands that these tips work for should be specified so make sure you check this before deciding. You can easily attach the tips onto the end of your power cable once you are sure that you have the right one.

What to Look for When Choosing a New Power Supply?

There are different kits and options available, so some things to look out for are:

  • Is everything you need included? Check the kit has an AC adapter power supply charger as well as different tip connectors.
  • Input voltage: The input should be 110-240 V if you think that you will need to use your laptop in another country. America uses different voltage than most other countries so having 110-240 V will ensure that you don't need to get another adapter when traveling.
  • Plug adapter: Does the kit include a plug adapter for different countries? Some kits will include plugs for the US, UK, and Europe.
  • Car adapter: Does the kit include a car adapter, so you can charge your laptop in the car while driving?

How Do I Care for My Laptop Charger?

To get the most use out of your laptop charger, you should take care of it. When you are not using your laptop, keep your charging cable in a safe place out of reach of pets and children. Make sure to not leave it in direct sunlight or allow any water to get inside. Do not coil up the cable too tightly, bend it, or tie knots in it as this will damage the internal components.
