Refresh Your Toshiba Tecra Series Laptop With a New Battery

Toshiba's Tecra series of laptops includes four notebook-style models that are intended to help you with various aspects of running a business. Some features you might find on these computers include systems to monitor the overall health of the device, fingerprint scanning for security, chrome buttons, and a textured finish. If you need a new battery to keep your notebook running smoothly, identifying compatible batteries, knowing some of their features, and learning how to install them may help you find the one you need.

What do the cells in a laptop battery do?

You may discover that several batteries are compatible with your laptop, and each has a different number of cells. The cell count of the battery is one way you may be able to measure how long each charge cycle can last. A higher number of cells could mean that the laptop battery will need fewer charge and discharge cycles than some other models. The cells in your batteries are designed to help them hold a charge and increase the longevity of the product. Some common cell counts you might find during your search include:

  • 4 cells.
  • 6 cells.
  • 8 cells.
  • 9 cells.
  • 12 cells.
What Tecra battery capacities are available?

You may wish to start your search for replacement batteries by checking how much charge they can hold. Battery capacities are typically measured in milliamperes per hour and expressed by a number followed by mAh. The number represents how much power the accessory can provide to your laptop for a single hour. If you know how much power your device uses for certain processes in a given hour, you may be able to calculate how many hours you can use it with only a battery. If a fully charged unit contains 3000 mAh of power and running a program on your computer takes 500 mAh, you may have enough power for six hours of continuous use. See the manufacturer site for details. Some common charge capacities you might find include:

  • 3200 mAh.
  • 4400 mAh.
  • 5200 mAh.
  • 8000 mAh.
How do you replace the battery in your laptop?

The steps below provide a general guide for replacing a dead or faulty battery in your device:

  • Position the laptop: Power off your device, close it, and turn it upside down.
  • Remove the covers: Your laptop may have several circular covers made of rubber attached to its underside. Use tweezers to remove these items.
  • Remove the screws: Removing those covers should reveal screws that you will need to remove as well.
  • Open the case: You should now be able to pry off the Tecra's bottom casing and expose the battery.
  • Remove the battery: Take out any screws you find holding the battery in place, remove its connectors, and lift it out of the case.
  • Install the new battery: Replace the old battery and reassemble your device.
