Choosing a Sony Stick PRO Duo Camera Memory Card: What You Should Know

When you are taking photos and videos with your digital camera, it's important to have plenty of memory space available. Choosing the right memory card allows you to have more than enough room on your device to meet all of your digital media needs.

There are three main Sony stick PRO duo camera memory cards used in digital recording devices:

• Secure Digital (SD): An SD card is the most common and smallest storage card out there. A standard SD card will hold around 2GB of information.
• Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC): SDHC cards are a slightly faster and larger version of the SD card. SDHC cards are not backward-compatible so if your camera calls for an SD card, an SDHC card won't work. These cards can hold up to 32GB of data.
• Secure Digital eXtended Capacity (SDXC): These are the largest and fastest processing cards. An SDXC camera can use all three card formats but also isn't backward-compatible. An SDXC card can hold up to 2TB of data.
• microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC: All three variants come in micro styles that are more compact versions of the same cards.
• MultiMedia and compact flash: These are additional but less commonly used card formats. Compact flash cards are very durable and large. MultiMedia cards aren't very common anymore as they have evolved into SD formats in time.

There are five main speed classes for memory cards. The higher the class, the faster the card stores data. In most cases, the class will be printed directly on the stick or card that you choose. You can also discover what speed class a data storage card is by reading its product specs and details.

• Class 2: Runs at 2 MB/s.
• Class 4: Runs at 4 MB/s.
• Class 6: Runs at 6 MB/s.
• Class 8: Runs at 8 MB/s.
• Class 10: Runs at 10 MB/s (can also be interchanged with UHS-1 10 MB/s class cards).

There are a few differences, although both gadgets function quite similarly and are used for essentially the same purposes. Some memory cards and memory sticks are interchangeable as well.

• Sony memory stick format variants: Memory cards of this variety have some different format specifications. These variations are Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo, and Memory Stick Micro (M2).
• Size differences: Sony memory sticks vary in size and may not fit in standard memory card slots.
• Use: Generally, the memory stick is only compatible with Sony products. You can find out what memory stick you need for your Sony camera by looking at the text next to your memory card slot or referencing your owner's manual.
