Bound in full tooled and gilt decorated calf leather by Zaehnsdorf with gilt titles and raised bands present to the spine with red silk present to the reverse of the boards. Leather very lightly worn along the extremities (bit of scuffing to the corners of the boards). Top edge gilt. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid. The First Edition of one of the finest examples of Victorian colour printing by the master printer-engraver Edmund Evans (1826-1905). The author, James Doyle, a gifted draughtsman and expert on heraldry, supplied the 81 watercolour scenes of medieval history and pageantry.
