Years ago I needed some belts for my Nakamichi cassette decks so I had to pay prices such as $42+ for a RX-505 belt and $9.99 for a RX-202 idler tire. Plus on top of this there was a minimum shipping of $9.99! So if someone wanted an idler tire they would pay a total of $19.98. Really OUTRAGEOUS. So I took upon myself to do something about this problem I had and in doing so I thought I would share the hard to find products to "save" vintage analog audio. I would do this at a reasonable price with a modest profit to pay for incidentals in my restorations of certain models of the following - Nakamichi cassette decks, Tandberg cassette and Reel to Reel decks and Technics Reel to Reel decks for the most part. To note, I do rework some other brands and models but not on a regular basis. Since I started selling the idler tires all sellers of idlers have been forced to drop their prices and shipping. This is good for all of us. My tires are a top quality tire and my reputation on ebay proceeds me on parts and a quality Guarantee behind all my restorations and parts. Please check my Feedback to substantiate my claims of quality. People have asked me why I have stopped my restorations of vintage audio decks. Well, in September of 2005 I moved out of my home for remodeling and now I am back in my home trying to put things in order to continue my reworking of vintage gear. One good thing is my shop for reworking has been expanded and has the most recent test equipment. I have purchased over 65 decks in the last year and have my work cut out for me. I do this solely as a hobby as it is a form of relaxation for me. All the profits are reinvested in this hobby which make me happy and help all who buy my products. Plus I have my own collection of vintage gear of all kinds which goes back to my Fisher X202 tube integrated amplifier which I earned installing an audio system in my High School. My first reel to reel (a Webcor mono recorder) I got in 1956 but I wore it out by the time I entered College. My Future Plans are to expand my product lines of discontinued and hard to find products. To also compile illustrated step by step instructions for installations of idler tires. In the past I have helped buyers over the phone if needed. Before you purchase item ---Please first email me the Make and Model of your deck to make sure I have or can get the tire. My tires are custom made for me. Retainers worked great on the K-1020. The original retainer was a very flimsy split ring. Your replacement was a tight fitting washer which pressed on firmly and won't fall off.

Just a note to let you know that we got the tire, and were able to get it back together. I had a friend who had more experience than me working on electronic stuff. This is a very complex piece of machinery, from a mechanical point of view. I was surprised we were able to get it back together at all. I had purchased a service manual online, but we have no electronic testing devices at all. Before the unit would not play cassettes at all. The defective tire caused it to slip & the cassette wouldn't even move. Now it plays fine, engages well, except for one slight problem. When first starting the cassette in play mode, it starts at a very fast speed, & sounds speeded up for a few seconds, like the chipmunks song, then seems to engage at normal speed. It seems to be a mechanical problem, rather than an electronic problem. Any ideas how we could investigate this further. I'm really very happy we got this far, & the tire made a huge difference! Just to let you know this replacement tire works like a charm on my Akai GX-F71 that I had purchased back in 1984. The transport now performs much the same as it
did when I first bought this tape deck. Needless to say I am totally giddy with the results and appreciate the quick turn around on the order. I had been searching the web
high and low for a replacement idler wheel assembly and had found an outfit in Canada that wanted $70.00 for the complete idler assembly plus $15.00 + for postage.
I was seriously considering it until I stumbled across your thing on ebay. Needless to say I am one happy camper when I consider how much this tire costs versus
what I was potentially considering spending. Thanks again.

This tire looks fabulous. The tire I cut has the same OD after I mount it (the inner od and outer od are a smidgen smaller than yours, so the happy result is a perfect tire. If you have a price for 10 qty I will let Willy Herman and Perry know so they can order from you.

The tire did the trick. It was easy to install, fit like a glove, and made a HUGE difference! My Onkyo deck went from “couldn’t move a tape” to “audiophile’s dream” in less than five minutes! Couldn’t be happier with your product, your service and my “almost new” vintage deck.
I changed belts and demagged, cleaned the whole thing up, but it would have been worthless without the tire. You ROCK!

Hi Dean,
I have received the 20mm OD idler tires. Thanks for the fast shipment! I have installed one tire into my Dragon and another into a ZX-9. They fit perfectly on the white idler wheels of both decks, and is just the thing to breathe new life into these older Naks.
I can confirm that idler tire replacement for these classic transport Naks is much more work than for the Sankyo transport Naks, but I have figured out a way to get the idler assembly out without completely disassembling the classic transport. It involves loosening the rear plate screws and pushing the rear section of the transport out to gain a few mm of extra space. The idler assembly can then be wiggled out to do the tire replacement. Putting the idler assembly back and reattaching it to the metal pin was the most time consuming, though.

Great item! It took an expensive broken tape player and turned it into a working unit in minutes. Very easy to fix and it fit perfectly.

Your Idler tire fits fine. My Yamaha K-1020 now Plays, RW and FW. I believe you said it was 14mm x 9mm x 2. I measured it as a little less than 15mm . My original tire measured 14mm x 10mm x 2. I'm pretty sure it is the original since the craigslist seller said he was the only owner. Today the tire measured a little more than 14mm, maybe 14.2 if I had to guess. Maybe because of expansion after being unmounted. But regardless or measurement discrepancies, your replacement works.

Dean the tire fit as the original but i did not realise there are two tires on the hub of this model. I replaced the upper one as it seemed to have the most gloss (wear) on it. The deck works great but i was after a rewind slippage issue. After i replaced the tire the rewind seemed to work bettet but not as it should. I have a service manual and they reference a rewind tension spring. I increased the tension on the spring and the rewind is functioning normal. I believe the combination of a new tire and spring adjustment was the answer. I would like to thank you for prompt shipping of the tire. Daren Dear n4229k,

David 01/01/2013 Hey bud I got one of the decks rebuilt and the one for the Pioneer CT-A7
was
just a tiny bit larger in diameter than the original but I.D was perfect along
with the width. Im listening to the deck right now. Now the Pioneer CT-93 one Im
a little concerned with as it is alot narrower than the one that was in my belt
kit from WJOE radio so I will have to wait on the complete tear down of this
deck. It will hopefully be this weekened. The last one was the cts-800 pioneer
deck. I havnt done it yet but since the idler dor the ct-a7 was fine this one

As you requested here is my experience that you can share. Idler tire
to
repair an Akai GX-F31 arrived quickly. Correct diameter although it was
not as wide as the original one, but since I had the whole thing apart I
installed it just the same and presto, it works beautifully. I lost a tiny
washer in the process, but hell it works fine without it. Dean got me the
right tire and I am satisfied with his research.
